I See Craft Dollars Everywhere!

We just had to take down two trees in our front yard due to some septic tank drainfield issues.  Our pastor heats with wood during the winter so we told him he could have the big stuff and we'd take the little stuff for campfires.  Well we ended up with A LOT and much of it is twig size.  Yes, it burns and will serve us fine but I'm looking at the pile and thinking... Twig doll furniture and other craft things.  Just some time, creativity and glue.  I told my son (11 and always wanting a way to earn money) that this would be a good project for him. Apparently he doesn't think so.  Sigh.  His loss.

Craft dollars waiting to happen!

See what some clever people are doing!

Someone's making $$ with twigs.... but I guess it won't be my son.

Sea Shell Crafts

My two oldest have to make some sort of sea shell craft for school.  Luckily we own a copy of Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts.  It has sea shell craft projects in it.  Seven has picked a little box to cover with shells and then use as storage and Andi has picked  a soap dish project.  Now it would be nice if we had sea shells we had collected ourselves, from the ocean shore, to make these but alas we must head off to Michael's or Hobby Lobby to  "collect" our shells. Still it will be a fun project.

The end is coming!

Peaches almost done.  Life should resume shortly.  Unless the Salsa that's next on the agenda kills me first.  My fabric is calling... calling... don't forget about me!

I have a love/hate relationship with...

...PEACHES!  I thought I'd be free and clear to sew after the garage sale.  Oh, no... I had to go and pick 80 + lbs of peaches.  That means I have to process said peaches.  Somebody remind of this moment next year.

I'm Learning To Sew Clothes For My Girls Because...

... 90% of "bottoms" available at the stores I frequent (Target, Meijer, Sears, JC Penney) are jeans.  The other 10% are short little "street walker" skirts.  Penney's did have some dresses but they were more for special occasion or church. (Which is fine but I was looking for everyday.) Now, we aren't a dress only family but I like to encourage dresses and skirts over pants most of the time.  It's kinda hard to do if you can't find anything cute, stylish, modern and modest.

But after watching the Homestead Blessing ladies on their Art of Sewing video, and seeing cute patterns at the fabric store and other places.  I am certain I can master clothes sewing.  I've done other items for a while but clothes have always freaked me out.  Remember the Cosby Show episode where Denise sews Theo a shirt and it turned out horribly wrong? (One super short sleeve, one super long sleeve, buttons askew etc.)  That is what I fear.  But I shall prevail so my girls can have proper clothing.

This is the Agnes Tunic from Jennifer Paganelli's Girl's World Book.  Love it!  But I am going to play with the length a bit so that it is knee length when my girls sit.
